Independence Day and Republic Day
Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations are annual events of great nationalistic pride among all Houstonians of Indian origin and even beyond. It transcends all cultural and social diversity that is inherent in the Indian heritage and brings all together as we celebrate the two days that marked independence from the British Raj in 1947.
Many organizations in Houston come together in these celebrations - truly symbolizing the national spirit.
Tagore Society of Houston joins India Culture Center (ICC) and other organizations as part of these celebrations. Independence Day celebrations are near August 15th ( when India became an independent state in 1947) and Republic day near January 26th (when the Constitution of India came into force in 1950 replacing the Government of India Act 1935, and established the Sovereign Democratic Republic of India.)
